About Us

ISM-Central Indiana exists to provide opportunities, resources, and leadership for professional development, certification, and networking for our membership, and to advance the purchasing and supply management profession within our affiliate area.

ISM-Central Indiana will serve as a center of excellence in establishing and maintaining best-in class professional standards of competency and conduct for the Procurement Profession and its members, in matters pertaining to research, education, and certification.

The National Association of Purchasing Management of Indianapolis Inc. (now ISM-Central Indiana, Inc.) was originally started in September 1917 as the Purchasing Agents Association of Indianapolis. Our focus was to foster and promote the interchange of ideas and cooperation of our members in the commercial and government purchasing communities.

As our profession developed, so did our offerings to our members and our focus in support of our members. As a result, in February, 1938, we were incorporated as a Not-for-Profit corporation. In June, 1968, we changed our name to the Purchasing Management Association of Indianapolis, Inc. And in 1992, we changed our name to the National Association of Purchasing Management of Indianapolis, Inc. Further, we became affiliated with the Institute of Supply Management, Inc. ISM is the largest supply management association in the world and is known for its standards of excellence, research and education.

In 2012, we officially became ISM-Central Indiana, reflecting our ongoing commitment to members throughout the region.

The ISM-Central Indiana Board of Directors can be found on this link. The ladies and gentlemen in these positions are regular ISM and ISM-Central Indiana members and serve the Central Indiana membership as volunteers. They have accepted the responsibility of helping the association to provide our membership with the best professional development activities available through seminars, speaker meetings and fun interactive events.

As stewards of this not-for-profit organization, they have also accepted the responsibility of ensuring the organization's fiscal health and work hard to maintain financial stability. At the same time, it is the board's goal to keep the cost of all activities as low as possible to ensure maximum member participation and value.
